The Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park, commonly known as the Rajiv Gandhi Zoo or Katraj Zoo,is located in Katraj, Pune district, Maharashtra State, India. It is managed by the Pune Municipal Corporation. The 130-acre (53 ha) zoo is divided into three parts: an animal orphanage, a snake park, and a zoo, and includes the 42-acre (17 ha) Katraj Lake.In 1953 the Pune Municipal Corporation created Peshwe Park on about 7 acres (2.8 ha) where Madhavrao Peshwe had established a private menagerie in 1770. Located in the heart of the city at the base of Parvati Hill, this zoo exhibited animals in traditional cages.

It is one of the six major zoos selected for the protected breeding of white-backed vulture.The world's first zoo with white tiger and melanistic tiger breeding. The only protected breeding center of Indian pangolin in the world.

It is the only zoological park in India that has become an institutional member of the World Association of Zoos and Aquarium - WAZA.

In the year 1980, for the first time in the world, the reproduction of crocodiles was done at Nandankanan Zoological Park.

It is the first zoo in India, where protected breeding of endangered rattles took place.

Assam State Zoo cum Botanical Garden Popularly called as Guwahati Zoo, it is the largest zoo in the North East region and among the prime Guwahati Tourist Places.

The Assam State Zoo was established in the year 1957 and was open to public in the year 1958. Spreads over an area of 175 hectare, the zoo is located within the Hengrabari Reserved Forest area of Guwahati. Initially, it had 42 animals and 236 birds. Now, the zoo is home to about 895 animals, birds and reptiles representing almost 113 species of animals and birds from around the world. The Zoo has launched the scheme of animal adoption in the year 2005. Often referred as 'Green Lung', it hosts several awareness activities and is involved in animal welfare and education.

The Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad is also known as Hyderabad Zoo. Named after Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, this zoo is a major attraction of the city, it was made public in 1963. The Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park (also known as the Sanjay Gandhi Botanical and Zoological Park or Patna Zoo) is located on Bailey Road in Patna, Bihar, India.The park was opened to the public in 1973 as a zoo. The park is the most visited picnic spot in Patna, with more than 36,000 visitors on New Year's Day in 2011 alone.

The park was first established in 1969 as a botanical garden. The then Governor of Bihar, Mr. Nityanand Kanungo, provided about 34 acres (14 hectares) of land from the Governor's House complex for the garden. In 1972, Public Works added 58.2 acres (23.6 ha) to it, and the Revenue Department transferred 60.75 acres (24.58 ha) to the Forest Department to help expand the park.

In 1986, Mr. Neelam Kumar Khaire (the first director of the park), with assistance from the Pune Municipal Corporation, created the Katraj Snake Park on land that was to become the Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park.
