Top 10 poor states in india

India is a country of diversity, culture, tradition and modernity. In India, the past, present and future exist together. There are 1.6 billion people living in multidimensional poverty across the world and nearly 440 million of them are in eight large Indian states, according to a new analysis using a unique index developed at the University of Oxford. The eight Indian states that have similar number of poor as in 25 African countries are Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Odisha, Rajasthan and West Bengal. The poorest region in south Asia is Bihar, the analysis states.Poverty is a widespread condition in India. After independence, poverty is an unsolvable problem and no resources with a few sources closely working with no development. In the 21st century, poverty is a biggest problem in the country. More than 29.8% of the population of 1.35 billion barely manages to survive and is below the poverty line.Poverty in India, according to a recent Indian government committee constituted to estimate poverty, over 38% of India’s population (380 million) is poor in india.
Poverty and Hunger are the biggest challenges not only for the survival of the people but also for the development.
We define the poorest as those who consume less than Rs.600 per capita per month in the villages and below Rs.860 per capita per month in the cities. These cutoffs help identify the poorest tenth of the Indian population.  10 Poorest states in India are as follows:

There is a marked difference in the extent and nature of poverty between the valley and the hills in Manipur. Besides the poor and uneven economic performance of the state and the lackadaisical implementation of poverty alleviation schemes, the failure of land reform measures in the hills is of particular importance in explaining the persistence of poverty.
I will not exactly describe Manipur as underveloped , but it is a developing state. Manipur is a living civilization of 2000 years legacy still moving on. Yes in terms of economy it is at a dismal condition with its per capita income( nominal) ranked lowest amongst all states and UTs.But development is a multi dimensional aspect as defined by UNDP's Human Development Index( HDI) which covers other aspects like Education and Health condition of the countries in addition to economic aspects.

The stature of assam is in the poorest segment if compared to the other indian states. The per capita income of Assam is among the lowest in the country.Assam’s location away from the main demand and production centres of India is also regularly cited as a key reason for its low levels of economic progress. Karnataka is one of the developed states in the southern part of India with
a geographically diverse population along with stark regional disparities

a noteworthy initiative was undertaken by Government of Karnataka to estimate poverty incidence at the district level from pooled 1993-94 NSS 50th round data for the Karnataka Haman Development report. This paper updates these estimate to 1999-00 by combining the central and state samples for Karnataka from the 55th round to examine regional variation in poverty across the stayes.
